COSTA MESA, CA (ANS) -- After more than a year of battling pancreatic cancer, Southern California Christian radio personality Rich Buhler, 65, has told the ASSIST News Service that he stepping down from his daily afternoon radio program, Talk from the Heart, on KBRT radio in Los Angeles.

Buhler, who will do his last show on Friday, September 16, 2011, told ANS, “I'm actually doing very well and feeling good most of the time but I have good days and I have bad days and it's impossible to predict when they are going to happen. I am occasionally slowed down by chemotherapy, occasional infections, and period hospitalizations which have made it difficult to be faithful to a five-day a week program.

“My listeners have become accustomed to tuning in and finding out that I am not there on some days. I am sad to be departing the show but I'm also looking forward to having a more flexible schedule that will allow for me to go with the flow of battling the cancer.”

Buhler went on to say, “KBRT is my radio home and I am not leaving the station. I'll be working with KBRT in other capacities that will allow me to continue friendship with the radio audience but without the demands of a daily program. The daily show deserves a more consistent commitment and I cannot guarantee that right now.

“I want to thank Don Crawford, the President of Crawford Broadcasting, and the leadership and staff of KBRT for their patience and support during these months. They have been outstanding and I appreciate them.

“Thanks also for so many listeners who have called and written to tell me of their concern, prayer, and encouragement. It has been one of the most overwhelming experiences of my life to receive such love and support.

Rich Buhler, who is known as the “Dean of Christian Talk Radio,” had been was first diagnosed with an inoperable “mass on his pancreas” late July of last year. He was admitted to a local hospital and after a biopsy, it was revealed that he had a “mass on his pancreas.”

Following news of his cancer, Rich Buhler says he was overwhelmed with thousands of messages from people around the world who said they had been praying for him.

After a time away from the microphone, he came back to host to the show part time in January, 2011, and in February went five-days-a week when he felt well enough to do so.

But now he feels it is time to hand over to others.

Besides his own battle with cancer, Buhler’s wife Dianne, also found out that she had melanoma, and this has been removed and so far she is now cancer free.

It is expected that Buhler will continue with KBRT in one way or another and also, once ANS learns about who will be taking over the show, we will let you know.
