New Free E-Book Gets Back To Basics

By Dan Wooding
Founder of ASSIST Ministries

CARSON, CA (ANS) -- Have you ever asked yourself: "What are the most profitable Bible truths that I can teach my people?" The Bible warns us against many unprofitable forms of teaching e.g. vain philosophy, speculations, myths and legends, disputes and wrangling over words, and ear-tickling sensationalism.

John Edmiston with his wife Minda
By contrast the Scriptures also highly recommend some other topics for us to preach on, such as focusing on Christ and Him crucified, matters concerning salvation, prayer, disciplined Christian living, the learning of wisdom in life, the discerning of good and evil and of course, loving one another.
In fact loving one another is so very important that Jesus calls it His own commandment (John 13:34,35). However everywhere we look we see love getting left behind in priority. Christians are full of Bible trivia knowledge but are also often lonely, unloved and confused. 1 Corinthians 8:1 explains this telling us that "Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up".

If we are to build up our people we must constantly teach them to love one another with the love of God! That way they will truly become the "body of Christ" that edifies itself in love (Ephesians 4:11-16).
John Edmiston has written a new free ebook called The Importance of Lovein order to help pastors, teachers and growing Christians learn about agape love. The Importance of Love consists of 30 Bible studies, each about 3 pages long, that go into depth about some aspect of obeying Jesus' command to: "Love one another as I have loved you". Each study takes about 15 miniutes to read and reflect on. Thus the book can easily be incorporated into a daily devotional routine where one chapter is read each day, for 30 days.

The Importance of Love is solidly biblical and will help Christians to grasp both the theology and practice of living a Spirit-filled life of love. Many Christians "get burned" when they first attempt to love others and this book shows how to be wise and discerning while also being obedient to Jesus' commands. Topics include why love is a key ingedient to the gospel, how love is the sign of a true Christian disciple, what to do with difficult people who resist our attempts to love them, the relationship between love, mercy and forgiveness of debts, and many others.
John Edmiston tells the ASSIST News Service (www.assistnews.net )that he hopes that The Importance of Love will be used for personal bible study and in home groups, cell groups and as part of the Christian education program in churches. He wants to see Christians edifying each other and getting "back to basics" so that they have a sound and well-founded faith in the gospel.

Edmiston says that: "The Christian life is not just about what we know, it is also about who we are and what we do with our lives and about how we treat others in a Christ-like way. Loving one another is central to this and deserves to be a high priority in the Christian life."

The Importance of Love may be downloaded for free from John Edmiston's website and the URL is:http://www.globalchristians.org/eternity/love/ - and John's book may be freely used for non-profit ministry purposes. (For instance you can print it out, duplicate it, email it to others, use it in your church and so on)
