COSTA MESA, CA (ANS) -- Rich Buhler, 65, known to his many loyal listeners in Southern California as the “Dean of Christian Talk Radio,” who has been battling pancreatic cancer, has announced the he is stepping from his role as host of the long-running “Talk From the Heart” show on KBRT/740 AM.

The new show will be hosted by Roger Marsh and David Housholder who had previously stood in for Buhler during the times he wasn’t able to present the show due to ill health.
“I'm doing well and have not declined in my health, but for the past year my ‘normal’ has included periodic bad days from chemotherapy, infections, and hospitalizations,” Rich Buhler told the ASSIST News Service. “That has made it difficult for me to be faithful to a 5-day a week show. So I'm stepping aside and looking forward to a more flexible schedule.
“KBRT is my radio home and I'm not leaving KBRT. The radio audience might hear me doing commentaries and news stories, guest hosting, or producing special programming.”
The veteran broadcaster, author, and speaker who lives with his wife Dianne in north Orange County, was originally admitted to a local hospital in Orange County, California, on Wednesday (July 28, 2010) after suffering from severe stomach pains. A biopsy subsequently revealed that he had a “mass on his pancreas.”
Eventually Buhler was able to return to “Talk From the Heart” but has recently found it increasingly difficult to deal with his cancer treatment and also hosting the show, and so he has finally decided it was the time to hand over to Marsh and Housholder.
“The Bottom Line with Roger and Hous” begins airing 3-5 p.m. weekdays on Monday, September 19, 2011.
Gary Lycan, radio reporter for the Orange County Register (www.ocregister.com) said that “The Bottom Line with Roger and Hous” is “more than a new Christian talk program” on KBRT/740 AM.
“The name itself underscores the bold commitment Crawford Broadcasting is making to nix easily available paid programming and introduce new live and local content to replace in afternoons the long-running Rich Buhler-hosted ‘Talk From the Heart,’” said Lycan.
He went onto say, “The question for KBRT: How do you replace an iconic program, and who should host it? Brainstorming meetings began and the result is ‘The Bottom Line with Roger and Hous.’ Roger is Roger Marsh of Laguna Hills, a writer, radio producer and freelance voiceover talent (‘I’m the ‘brought to you by’ guy,” he said.) ‘Hous” is David Housholder of Huntington Beach, lead pastor of Robinwood Church of Huntington Beach.”
In talking about “The Bottom Line,” Marsh e-mailed Lycan and said, “There’s so much in the media about all of the problems in the world today; ‘The Bottom Line’ is about solutions. This isn’t a question of ‘Us vs. Them’ anymore. There is no more ‘Them.’ If we’re going to fix the economy, elect better candidates or do a more effective job of sharing our faith, it’s up to ‘Us to make it happen. We can’t wait for ‘Them’ to come to ‘Us.’
“‘The Bottom Line’ features informative, topical and thought-provoking conversation to help listeners get a better understanding of why you believe what you believe, and how to live out that faith to help others.”
Housholder, said Lycan, added, “We want to cut through the rhetoric and make faith practical and explainable.”
After ending his own daily program on September 16, Buhler will guest on “The Bottom Line” September 19.
Marsh e-mailed Lycan and said, “Rich Buhler is a true broadcasting legend. Thirty years ago, he revolutionized Christian radio by bringing the live call-in program to the format. No one could ever ‘take over’ for an icon, which is why ‘The Bottom Line’ represents what we believe to be the next generation of faith-based programming.”
