John G. Fabrin to leave Rhema Broadcasting Group as CEO

He says, ‘I will remain with RBG until the new CEO is on board’

AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND (ANS) -- John G. Fabrin, the long-serving CEO of the Rhema Broadcasting Group (RGM) based in Auckland, New Zealand, has announced that he is leaving the country’s largest media group.
John G. Fabrin

In a letter to RGM supporters, Fabrin explained, “For over 17 years now, I have had the great privilege of being one of the fulltime crew members here at RBG and for almost 12 of those years, as Chief Executive Officer of this unique mission. Similar to the captain of a ship, the role has involved receiving orders from the ship’s owners or admiralty, planning voyages, overseeing the day to day operations, leading the crew, being responsible for ensuring good stewardship and then reporting back to the governing body. This however is soon to change. Let me explain.

“Some time ago I woke in the early hours of the morning with the strong impression that I should seek God and pray. It was 4am… the ‘overnight watch’, not one that I see very often :). As I waited on the Lord, with my Bible ready, it was soon apparent that God was giving me a picture of something He was going to lead me to in the future.

“I felt joy as I noted on paper what I felt the Lord was revealing to me. I have been following the Lord for decades now so I have learnt when a moment like this is from God. However I believe that we should always examine any vision in light of what the Bible says. Having done this over the months since then, it has become increasingly apparent that I am to get a different posting.

“I am so very grateful that God prepared me over a considerable period of time so I could in faith give plenty of notice to the Board that my season at RBG is nearing an end. Personally this has been a huge step as I have been so engaged in the mission for many years and from the very beginning knew an absolute call of God to it.

“In addition the team here is an outstanding group of people whom I love and respect; the members and supporters, of which you are one, are faithful and caring; and the broadcasts and publications continue to be used powerfully in hundreds of thousands of lives.

“RBG is a unique and amazing work. God uses it to literally ‘change lives for good’ all over this land.

Considering all of the above I was not about to come to a decision lightly or hastily. However, just as I knew the call of God to Rhema all those years ago, I do have an assurance and peace that enables me to ‘step out’ in faith.”

Fabrin added, “As a consequence of this, we would be extremely grateful if you would pray for the Board as it seeks a new CEO - through the process of interviewing and ultimately appointing the right person - to lead the RBG mission. It is vital that the Board knows with absolute certainty who the right person is and that the individual also knows they have God’s call to step into the CEO position in faith. I will remain with RBG until the new CEO is on board.

“Thank you for your support for the RBG mission. On behalf of all those whose lives are changed for good because of the message communicated through the RBG mission, ‘Thank you’.”

Fabrin also described the inner workings of the organization by saying, “You would be amazed at what it takes to keep the Rhema Broadcasting Group operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year! The technical infrastructure alone is quite massive. When you consider that we operate four radio networks and a television channel (broadcast via 89 transmitters), multiple online services, and publish two daily devotionals, you start to get the picture of a complex and large mission. We have 70 staff plus many volunteers, and of course thousands of wonderful supporters like you, who all give of the resources they steward to keep the ministry functioning.

“I often think of RBG as being like a large ship on a voyage. The seas can be calm with good visibility ahead, or the opposite, the ship pushing forward in poor light and raw faith against a strong headwind and near treacherous rocks. The licence renewal of our AM/FM licences this last 18 months was a bit like the latter for all of us on board, yet God faithfully helped us navigate our way through, thanks to you and our wonderful crew here at RBG.

“In my role as CEO, like a ship’s captain, I have been greatly encouraged and blessed to have witnessed God’s wonderful hand leading and guiding us through many different seasons and weather.”

Passing the baton of CEO

USA (MNN) ― Chief executive officer Ken Hall will be passing the baton after 18 years of dedicated service toBuckner International.

Hall announced his retirement in a meeting of Buckner's board of trustees last Friday, July 22. He will officially retire April 30, 2012.

When Hall first came to a position of leadership with Buckner International in 1993, he filled the roles of both CEO and President up until 2010. At that time, he relinquished the position of President and continued on as CEO.

While at the helm of leadership at Buckner, Hall oversaw some of the organization's greatest expansion. He broadened their ministry outreach beyond American borders, launching their international branches in 1996.

Hall oversaw $200 million worth of capital improvements to Buckner's organization. In 2008, the amount of Buckner endowments topped $200 million.

Another incredible way God used Hall's leadership at Buckner was through the growth of Buckner Retirement Services (BRS). According to Ziegler and Company, BRS today holds the place of the largest non-profit organization for senior living in the state of Texas where Buckner is based.

To date, Buckner now has assets amounting to a value of $400 million. Under Hall, Buckner was able to serve more than 400,000 people yearly because of their expanded ministries.

Stepping up to take Hall's place as CEO will be President Albert Reyes. Reyes was elected President of Buckner International back in 2010 and will act as both CEO and President following Hall's retirement.
Reyes is very capable of filling the vacant role and has a history of succeeding Hall as he was the one to step into Hall's old position of President in 2010 as well.

Reyes holds two doctorate degrees and has served as a pastor of three churches and President of Baptist University of the Américas in San Antonio.

Buckner's Board Chair Lee Bush says the leadership transition "exemplifies the way Christian ministries should operate. Buckner has been blessed for 132 years with outstanding leaders, and both Dr. Hall and Dr. Reyes personify that leadership."

The ministry will continue on in their mission to be the healing hands of Christ to impoverished and abused children and families across the globe. Hall sought to keep the ministry centered on God's call to reach others in His name. Reyes will also continue in that vision as Buckner exists for Christ's glory.
